About the Event
Whoooo's ready to celebrate Halloween weekend with an evening of birding and enjoying a campfire & s'mores in the park?! Hurry and register for this free event (open to all ages). Birdy costumes encouraged! Limited spots are available for this program so please let us know if you will not be able to attend for any reason so that we may give your spot to another person.
To better prepare for our trip, we are asking participants to take 5 mins to read the following information.*
Meet up location: Vista Hermosa North Parking lot at 5:00 pm
Schedule:
Upon arrival, CNC and FBC LA staff will check-in folks and have participants sign waivers. Once everyone is gathered, we will dive into an opening circle led by a FBC lead. Then CNC Transit to Trail Program Coordinator will welcome us on a nature stroll through the site explaining the history and importance - why Vista Hermosa is an vital place for humans, plants, and animals. Our stroll through Vista Hermosa will consist of a concrete and dirt path with minimal elevation on the loop trail. We will be discussing the importance of Birding in connection to green spaces and local waterways, we'll learn about the popular bird species local to the site, and engage in a group birding session in which participants will be able to explore around certains area's of the park on their own and see what birds they can spot. Finally, we will gather in the campfire area where we will learn about fire as a important component to healthy ecosystems and it's benefits for birds, raffle off special prizes, and most importantly enjoy smores around a campfire.
How to prepare and what to bring:
We expect our evening at Vista Hermosa Park to be cool with temperatures at 60° and partly cloudy skies (subject to change), so please layer up with thin layers that can easily be added or removed (think of layers like an onion)! This will also be a Full Moon night so feel free to bring cameras/ tripods for photography purposes. Keep in mind that you will have to carry everything throughout the duration of the hike so it is highly suggested not to bring any equipment that is too heavy! We will spend 5:00pm - 8:00pm (approximately 3 hours) together so make sure to bring snacks, closed toe shoes, enough water, a backpack to carry your belongings, a blanket/towel to sit on, and a curiosity for birds! Please make sure to arrive in the West parking lot of Vista Hermosa on time so we can follow our schedule accordingly.
Features: This path is stroller, wheelchair and ADA friendly. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Parking is free. Click here to view the park map or learn more on their website.
If you need any access needs to make your trip as comfortable as possible or need to communicate anything to CNC staff to ensure a pleasurable experience in our Transit to Trails, please reach out to our Program Coordinator jovi@communitynatureconnection.org AND ttt@communitynatureconnection.org
Please familiarize yourself with the following:
Feel free to fill out these Activity and Photo Release waivers above in advance and bring them with you. Extra copies of the Release Form will be available upon arrival. Completion and signatures of both these forms are required in order to participate in the program.
