About the Event

The start of Black Birds week is only a few weeks away, starting from May 29-June 4.

Meet us at Compton Creek Naturak Park, underneath the open pavilion on Saturday June 4, 2022 at 9am for our Transit to Trails to King Gillette Ranch. We will board a bus where we will cruise through the Santa Monica Mountains and arrive to King Gillette Ranch for some fun community-centered programming. Upon arriving, we get into interactive activities and have the option to join our Program Coordinator on a hike to Inspiration Point trail which is 1.5 miles with a 246ft elevation gain or explore the bottom portion of KGR, where many birds love to be.

Join us as we learn about the local birds that reside at King Gillette Ranch and discuss the importance of birds in our ecosystem. There is a Visitors Center that you will have the time to look around and shop for some cool items if you'd like. They have cool birding materials!

As a reminder, we will spend 9am-4:30pm (7.5 hours) together so make sure you bring enough water, a nice filling lunch, and curiosity for the outdoors. Please make sure to arrive on time (early), so that we can get to King Gillette Ranch and follow our schedule accordingly. The bus will not be able to wait, so make sure to get there on time.

Binoculars will be provided, but you are welcomed to bring your own. All skill levels are welcomed.

We will be raffling off a Hydro Flask, so come ready!

When registering for this event: please make sure to add your correct email and phone number so that you can receive more details of what to expect on our trip, and if we need to further contact you about any program changes.

Please note, COVID-19 safety guidelines will be followed.

If you need any accommodations or need to communicate anything in particular to keep in mind on our Transit to Trails, please reach out to our Program Coordinator Zee Zetino, zee@communitynatureconnection.org .

King Gillette Ranch is located on Chumash, Tongva, Micqanaqa’n ancestral lands

While our programs throughout the year are open to all, this is an effort to create an intentional space for the Black/African Diaspora community to access the outdoors.
